Kilimanjaro

We climbed Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania,(5,895 metres), summiting on Sept 21st, The U.N. Peace Day. Here we spoke out thousands of Peace Messages, including one from every nation on Earth. This was part of our work to make a difference to the peace and harmony of the planet.

Team members were:- Tess Burrows, Pete Hammond, Rima Chai, Nicholas Pilbrow, Ann Tang, Jackie Hau, Mary Jackson, Jacob Whittingham, Gideon Whittingham, Nick Thomas and Jessica Hensley. Some of us prepared with a climb of the sacred Maasai mountain, Oldonyo Lengai (2,960 mts). Then acclimatisation on Mt Meru(4,562 mts) and with the full team began the Kilimanjaro Peace Climb on Sept 14th

Besides coping with the steepness of the mountain and enduring the extreme altitude we struggled with the dragging of a peace-tyre which held all the Messages, as our symbolic focus of “PULLING TOGETHER FOR PEACE”

We were also honoured to be carrying with us a lantern containing the World Peace Flame. This is the sacred flame that burns eternally in North Wales. It came together in 1999 as living flames sent by peace-makers from 5 continents of the world. It is a potent representation of Peace. See www.worldpeaceflame.org

We invite you to join us with thoughts and prayers for Peace every evening at 9pm. See ‘the Silent Minute’ www.thesilentminute.org.uk
